Our final story idea

Our final story idea:

The short film starts off with the doorbell ringing, we don’t see who it is we only see his shoulder and an old women opening the door. The women talks to the man and proceeds to let him in the house. She then makes him tea and the two of them talk. The audience doesn’t know who the man in the suit is yet. The man asks about the women’s life and she shows him pictures from her past including photos from her wedding, photos of her children etc. The time changes to show the man has been there a while and we see the two sat outside in the women’s garden there are CU of the flowers in her garden and she talks about how she has grown them and how her grandchildren like the flowers etc. The man in the suit says to the women “so, do you know who I am and why I’m here?” the old women replies “of course I do” there is a bright light and the last shot is of the front door (same shot as the first one) the doorbell rings and we hear a man shouting “mum are you in there, mum!?” the film ends.

In a nutshell our film is about old women reminiscing her life with death before he takes her. The whole film is set in her short time before she dies. The idea is that doorbell at the beginning isn’t death it’s her son come to check on her because she’s ill but death has beat him to it.

  1. Make sure you get an eCU of the doorbell being run - the sound for this needs to be a foley as well.

Great idea. Planning is really critical as this must last for the full 5 minutes.

Maybe shoot more dialogue scenes than you think you need, so that you have extra material to add in.

Create a detailed plan and structure of the what the conversation will be about and as we said, break it up with some interesting sound and imagery from the past.
