Audio Selection For Short Film

We used Soundcloud to find out what was the best music track that would fit in our short film.

The ones we have chosen are:

Dafydd Bullock
https://soundcloud.com/dafydd-bullock/string-quartet-18-1

When listening to Dafydd Bullock's peice of music i feel this doesnt link to our short film. Originally we thought that it would link with our short film due to the relaxing tone it has. However when we played the music next to the short film we found that they did not flow well together. This is due to the lack of egnima that led to this track to not work for the short film. This is because the enigima does not come through the track due to the strong relaxtion it gives off. Futhermore the purpose of the music was to create the connection of the charaters to our target audienceas this is vital when creating a short film. The reason for this is that we only have a certain amount of time to bring this connection between the film and the audience, so it is vital that the track and film work well together.

Hummel
https://soundcloud.com/mu-sic-88/lose-oneself

When listening to Hummel's soundtrack we felt that it they were both on the same style of music of classical they both different as Hummel's track of tempo is slower compared Dafydd. Because of the track been slow this did not meet to our expectations. Our expecations for picking the music is that it needs to flow well with the film, its needs to be able to create the link of the film to the audience and it needs to create the specific mood of our film which consist of themes such as death and memories. Originally we thought it would link with the film due to its tone. However it was not able to beacuase of its tempo being slow this made the film and the specific track not flow well with each other. In conclusion it was a potential track but due to its slow sound it was not the final outcome of music for our film.

Alexander Krichel
https://soundcloud.com/alexander-krichel/oberons-zauberhorn

When listening to Alexander Krichel's soundtrack we felt that this calming track did not fit well to the fil. The reason for this is because the music gave differnent mood to what we expected. However what I liked about thetrack was that the combination of the orchestra and piano makes the soundtrack flow well together. But the tone when put next to the film made the film not connect well.

Filming - 8th Obtober

This is us setting up the lighting for one of the shots.

planning - 6th October

This was a rough idea we came up with whilst doing the story board. We changed our idea and we ended up using my dad and showing him actually standing at the door knocking in our film.

Lovefield - Alex Barker

 Lovefield (2008) PosterLovefield (Ratthe)

The extract begins with an extreme longshot of a cornfield. The camera then pans across to a cell phone, money and a purse are dispersed on the land and a woman with blood on the foot is crying in pain. From this we then begin to realise this is a thriller as it uses conventions of a thriller such as the blood on the woman hand and feet all shown in extreme close-up to give enigmas on who she is. By the use of these conventions you begin to see Ricky Altman’s theory. Another example of a convention is with the woman screaming as the camera tracks down non diegetic of intense music begins to play to increase suspense. It varieties from the convention from diegetic music of the wind to adding tension music. The next shot then begins to show a sign of the location with a crow. I believe the director chose the crow to signify danger as that is what a crow is usually signified as a threat. Also when the shots of the crow are focused on him with the background being blurred to again signify the danger.
He runs to a car that has been left on the road with the driver door opened and nervous. We know that he is nervous due to his body language and facial expressions of him looking around as if he doesn’t want anyone to see him.

I asked my gran what things she would talk about to death in her last few moments of her life so that we can put together a script for her as she is playing the old women in our short film. This is the email she sent me.

Hello Kayla,
I've written down the bare bones of my life, giving "The Grim Reaper" something to talk to me about .

I was born in 1939 just before the 2nd world war. I was the 3rd of 8 children. We lived in Rustington.
I went to Worthing High School.
I trained to be a nurse at Worthing Hospital.
I met Les who was a policeman in Worthing and we married in 1961.
We had 4 children, 2 girls then 2 boys. I enjoyed being a mother especially following them in their sports.
Les had problems with chest infections and was diagnosed with a primary immune deficiency . I was able to help by putting up intravenous infusions of antibodies.
I looked after him for a long time, he eventually died in 2011.

In the last 4 years I've been a member of the u3a. I joined an O&A group and have been on a lot of outings. I try to collect pencils to remind me where I've been.
I read a lot and lead a Book discussion Group.
I still garden and have made the garden easier to keep tidy.
I also watch TV .
I hope this is helpful.
See you on Tuesday pm.

Silent Things - Alex Barker

Silent Things
“Silent Things” is about an autistic man and a woman who undergo a test between character and friendship. Many camera shots are used throughout the film to create meanings and a story to the film. To begin with, the establishing shot is a long shot of a beach which is known to be a stereotypical setting to start a film. After the title, we are shown medium shots and two shots of 2 characters a male and female. Throughout the scene we see both the 2 characters together they copy each other with the male mainly copying her. Arguably this is stereotypical of a person who has autism as it shows his signs of autism such as him copying her. Another way we see that the male has autism is by the use of body language combined with the use of his facile expressions to show his character. With the copying, I believe the director wanted the audience to see the connection between the 2 characters to show their connection to each other with an interactive activity such as the kite.
